Whether you're navigating anxiety or depression, working through a relationship or family conflict, processing grief, coping with addiction, managing a chronic illness, or healing from trauma — you don't have to figure it out alone.
I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Portland, Oregon, and I've spent my career helping people work through exactly these kinds of challenges.
How I work
My approach is integrative, which means I draw from several evidence-based methods rather than a one-size-fits-all model — including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based practices, and Motivational Interviewing. In practice, that means our work together is tailored to you: practical tools when you need structure, and space to talk when you need to process.
What matters most to me, though, is the relationship. I believe real change happens when you feel genuinely seen — so I focus on meeting you where you're at, and creating a space that's honest, compassionate, and safe.
Background & training
I hold a Master of Social Work with a minor in Mental Health & Chemical Dependency from Eastern Michigan University, along with additional training in integrative sex and couples counseling, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and trauma-focused interventions.
Ready to talk?
I'd be glad to hear what's going on and talk through whether we might be a good fit. I offer no-cost virtual consultations to see if we’d be a good fit. You can reach me at: ryandawson@northwoodscounseling.org or call (503) 765-5720.
